VOV Eyeshadow Pencil

I have been MIA for so long that I was starting to miss my blog horribly. Managing home, work and not to forget a boisterous kid can be a tough job. Well, even with all this my makeup craze continues especially my search for cheap and wonderful products. Recently while getting bored at a ‘kirana ka dukan’ I spotted some makeup stuff (yes..yess the kirana walas keep makeup stuff these days..how wonderful for people like me J). The one thing that I was interested in was the eyeshadow pencils from VOV (btw I totally love VOV stuff, cheap and extremely high quality). I got a basic bronze to see how it works and I have to say that I am super impressed.

Price: I don’t remember 150 bucks I guess. It has a net weight of 3.5 grams. They are packaged like the chubby sticks from Clinque and the lip stains from Revlon. Love the cute easy to use packaging. All you need to do is glide it across the lids to get the color. No need for brushes and any messy business

Pigmentation and Staying Power: The color is a golden bronze shade which looks lovely on the lids especially when paired with bright red or pink lips. The texture is rich and creamy which means the eyeshadow glides on effortlessly. Unfortunately the creamy texture means it tends o migrate onto things, which includes your hands, other parts of the face. The staying power is almost nil. It is gone in half an hour!!! The color lasts for some time when used with a primer but there is no significant improvement in the staying power. I now use it as a base for my powder eyeshadows, mostly to bring out the color. This is how the color looks on my lids (which are very pigmented) without a primer.

My recommendation: Its cheap and the color is nice but really the time it lasts on the lids is a complete disappointment.

Vov Eyeshadow Singles

Before writing this post I would like to tell everyone that I am not a brand ambassador of this brand but I really like Vov products. The quality is fairly good and for the price Vov offers some really nice things. So for a person like me with a limited budget this is quite a good bet. I have a huge eyeshadow palette by Vov and the quality is fairly ok, nothing too great. So when I saw the eyeshadow singles I wasn’t expecting much. To my surprise however the Vov eyeshadow singles like my Miss Claire eyeshadow singles are extremely good eyeshadows with amazing pigmentation and staying power. I got a beautiful forest green eyeshadow and a teal blue eyeshadow. They cost me around 110 bucks and it is available at local beauty stores. There are loads of colors available. The texture is a beautiful, smooth and satin soft. They apply on the lids like a dream and stay on for a long time approximately four hours on my lids even without a primer. There are no shimmers and the eyeshadow just has a beautiful shine to it.

Vov Eyeshadow 0751 is a beautiful olive green eyeshadow while 0453 is a pretty teal blue eyeshadow. Here are the swatches of the eyeshadows and a FOTD with 0751 on my lids.

Vov Candy Lipcolor Palette

I had posted my haul pics for last month a couple of days back and one thing that caught a number of reader’s fancy was the Vov Lip palette. I got this from the local beauty store from where I buy all my Vov and Miss Claire makeup. I got this for around 190 bucks and the palette has six colors. Basically I got this palette just because I was so tired of waiting for the Inglot sale to start. Well, I am sure the quality is no where near those creamy Inglot lipstick refills but this one is a great palette for the budget conscious.

Along with the six lip colors the palette also contains a lip brush which is actually quite good. The bristles are soft and application is fairly easy with the brush. It also had a cap but my ever adventurous makeup lover daughter threw it somewhere. There is also a cover for the lip colors and a small mirror. I liked the packaging. It is quite thoughtful and looks good as well. The bubble tops on the cover allow you to see the color.

The first is a clear gloss with fine shimmer while the second is a light peachy lipstick. The third is a coral pink with a slight shimmer. The fourth one is a dark pink while the fifth one is a light orangish red. The last lipstick is a bright red. All the lipsticks have average pigmentation. Here I have swiped the lipsticks twice only. While the first two do not show up on my lips at all, the last three are my absolute favorites.

The texture is smooth and it glides on easily on even my dry lips. The staying power is beyond awesome. It lasts for more than eight hours and even if you have meals in between there will be a slight tint. No problems with fine lines and dryness. Here is an FOTD in which I have mixed the fourth and last shades. Palettes are so much fun..I love all that mixing and matching (I sound like a little girl)

My recommendation: If you can find it do get it. It is a good palette with some pretty shades and its great for travelling as well.

Haul Alert: Mac, Maxfactor and Vov

I went berserk shopping last month. I was just shopping so much that even my hubby gave up trying to control me. I don’t think I spent even one weekend without hauling some makeup stuff besides other things of course. I know I am a little late but here are the pics of my haul. Enjoy and hope you all get a little jealous as well…heee…heee

Maxfactor
I got some Maxfactor goodies. I had never noticed the brand before but after some rave reviews from fellow bloggers I knew I just had to get some stuff from there. It’s a good brand with some affordable and very good stuff. I got two single eyeshadows Passionate Plum and Midnight black which is just gorgeous black with sparkly blue flecks. The lipfinity is very good too. It consists of a liquid lipstick and a lip balm. Apply the liquid lipstick and let it dry and then finish off by applying the lip balm. I have never used a long staying lip product as good as this.

Vov
I am crazy about Miss Claire single eyeshadows and Vov too has the same singles as well. I got a gorgeous forest green and teal blue shade. I also got this amazing lip color palette which cost me just about 190 bucks. It contains some gorgeous coral and red shades. As you can see I have been using it a lot last month.

Faces and some random stuff

I got the Faces Satin matte lipstick in mulberry. It’s a beautiful brown pink shade that is so creamy and amazing. I also got these pretty earrings for some 200 bucks from Sia and  the sunscreen from Vlcc which incidently has impressed me a lot. I haven’t taken any pics but I also got a lot of stuff from Lush which includes my favorite Sylvia Stout shampoo and some amazing soaps.

Mac
Finally my favorites. My Mac Creemsheen lippi Partyline and Hepcat eyeshadow…Isn’t that purple just gorgeous..I just can’t wait to get started.

Hope you liked my little haul. Tell me what you liked and would like me to review first. Ciao

Vov Eyeshadow Pallete 98 in 1

There are a lot of things which I just pick up on a whim. Well, being an impulsive buyer does that to you. If you are in Pune then you must have heard of a shop called Much More. Its actually not a branded store but the shoes, bags and other items are quite good and I shop a lot from them. When roaming around the shop, I spotted a huge eyeshadow palette. Now my lack of credit card means I cannot shop for those lovely palettes available abroad. So I just picked this up without swatching or even giving it a second glance.

Price: I am guessing it was for INR 550. I do not remember although I did see it on FashionandYou for around INR 750 recently.

Packaging: I am a sucker for cute or classy packaging and to tell you the truth I just loved the packaging so much that I picked this up. The white case with the small bubble clear tops is just adorable. The palette itself is huge with 98 eyeshadows and four “chotu” applicators and a small mirror. The colors in it are just mind blowing. From different shades of blues, greens, pinks and a whole lot of neutral colors, this eyeshadow palette has it all. It even has a blood red eyeshadow :P

Pigmentation and Texture: The texture is smooth and very soft. All the eyeshadows have golden shimmer which by the way is not very apparent when used on the lids. I use my groundwork paint pot as a base so the eyeshadows do stay on for a reasonable five to six hours which is pretty good considering what I paid for it.

The pigmentation varies. While some colors are just amazingly well pigmented others just do not show up and are very, very chalky. Here are some random swatches of the eyeshadows.

What Do I Not Like

  • Well, some eyeshadows are a real pain to use
  • It is not a problem actually but I just cannot use these huge pallets. I prefer small quads
  • NO matte eyeshadows L
  • Not easily available. I guess some local beauty shops might stock this.
I cannot really advise you to get this palette but if you are just starting off and want to play with a lot of colors without emptying your bank account then this is a good bet.

A Feast for Your Eyes! My New Mac Haul

There are days when you can go completely overboard and fortunately for me (and unfortunately my bank balance) today was one of those days ...
